Milaga killi sambar ( Dal soup with red chilli tempering)

This sambar is the basic for all other sambars.Its very famous in southern part of India.Its very simple and can be had with any side dish.The most famous is chicken fry.I love the way my mom cooks.

Milaga Killi Sambar!!!
1.Toor Dal              - 1/2 cup
2.Onion                   -  1
3.Tomato                 -  11/2
4.Curry leaves

For Tempering:
1.Red chillies           -   6
2.Mustard seeds      -   1tsp
3.Cumin seeds          -   1 tsp
4.Methi seeds           -   1tsp


* Pressur cook the toor dal for 3 whistles and keep it aside.
* Chop onion and tomatoes.
* Take a pan and add oil.
* Temper with All the ingrdients under tempering.
* Saute onion in the pan until it becomes transparent.
* Sprinkle salt and turmeric pwdr to the mixture.
* Now dump in the tomatoes and let it cook for 2 to 3 mins or until it disintergrates.
* frequently adding salt will help the dish cook fast.
* Pour the cooked dal into the mixture and give it a mix.
* Bring it to boil and adjust salt to taste.
* Now take 2 red chillies,some curry leaves , cilantro and mix it with the sambar.This will enhance the flavor of sambar.
* Cover it with the lid.
* Serve with rice.
